Sweet and Sour Tofu With Barberries

Here’s a delicious manner to make Sweet and Sour Tofu with Barberries—a vibrant, tangy, and barely candy dish with Persian-stimulated flavors. Barberries upload a tart pop that pairs wonderfully with tofu.

Ingredients (Serves 2–three)

For the tofu:

400g company tofu, pressed and cubed

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp cornstarch

2 tbsp vegetable oil

For the sauce:

2 tbsp tomato paste

2 tbsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)

1–2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (alter for sweetness)

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tsp turmeric (non-obligatory, for colour)

½ tsp black pepper

50ml water

For garnish & extras:

2 tbsp dried barberries, rinsed and drained

1 small onion, finely sliced

1 clove garlic, minced

1–2 tbsp slivered almonds or pistachios (optionally available)

Fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped

Instructions

1. Prepare the tofu:

Press tofu to dispose of excess water. Cut into 2 cm cubes.

Toss cubes in soy sauce, then sprinkle with cornstarch, coating frivolously.

2. Cook the tofu:

Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium-excessive warmness.

Fry tofu till golden and barely crispy on all sides (approximately 6–eight mins). Remove and set apart.

3. Prepare barberries:

In a small pan, soften 1 tsp butter or oil, lightly toast the barberries for 1–2 mins.

Be cautious—they can burn fast! Set apart.

4. Make the sauce:

In the identical pan, upload a bit oil if wanted, sauté onions until gentle, then upload garlic and cook dinner for 30 seconds.

Stir in tomato paste, vinegar, honey, soy sauce, turmeric, and water. Simmer for two–3 minutes until slightly thickened.

5. Combine:

Return tofu to the pan, gently toss to coat in sauce.

Add the toasted barberries and mix carefully.

6. Serve:

Transfer to a serving dish, sprinkle with nuts and clean herbs if using.

Serve with steamed rice, quinoa, or flatbread.

This dish balances sweet, bitter, and tangy flavors with the chewy tofu and tart barberries—a perfect vegetarian foremost with a Persian twist.

I also can endorse a slightly faster, one-pan model that makes the tofu greater crispy and the sauce sleek—do you need me to try this.
