Korean BBQ Tempeh
Grain Bowl
A colorful, protein-packed bowl inspired by using Korean BBQ
flavors. Tempeh is marinated in a candy-spicy sauce, then pan-seared until
caramelized. Served over grains with fresh vegetables, avocado, and a light
dressing, it’s perfect for lunch or dinner.
Ingredients (Serves
2–3)
For the Korean BBQ
Tempeh:
200–250g tempeh, thinly sliced
2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-loose)
1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tsp rice vinegar
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp grated ginger
Grain Bowl Base:
1 cup cooked brown rice, quinoa, or farro
1 cup shredded red cabbage
1 medium carrot, julienned or grated
half of cucumber, thinly sliced
1 avocado, sliced
2–three green onions, chopped
1 tbsp sesame seeds
Optional: kimchi for tangy flavor
Optional Dressing:
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp maple syrup
half tsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
1. Marinate the
Tempeh:
In a small bowl, whisk collectively soy sauce, gochujang,
maple syrup, sesame oil, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger. Add tempeh slices,
ensuring they may be well lined. Let marinate for 15–30 minutes to soak up the
flavors.
2. Cook the Tempeh:
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium warmth. Add the
marinated tempeh and sear for three–4 minutes in line with side till golden and
slightly crispy. Remove from heat and set aside.
3. Prepare the Grain
Base:
Cook your preference of grains consistent with package deal
commands. Fluff with a fork and divide frivolously into serving bowls.
4. Assemble the
Bowls:
Layer shredded cabbage, carrots, cucumber, and avocado over
the grains. Place the cooked tempeh on pinnacle. Sprinkle with chopped
inexperienced onions and sesame seeds. Add kimchi if favored.
5. Add Dressing:
Mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, maple syrup, and
gochugaru in a small bowl. Drizzle over the bowl for extra taste.
Tips &
Variations:
Pressing tempeh before marinating makes it take in extra
flavor.
Roast or steam broccoli, bok choy, or bell peppers for
additonal vegetables.
For crunch, lightly toast sesame seeds before including.
Swap grains with cauliflower rice for a lighter, low-carb choice.
Adjust gochujang for spiciness.
This Korean BBQ Tempeh Grain Bowl is good, highly spiced,
savory, and full of vitamins. The mixture of caramelized tempeh, clean veggies,
and hearty grains makes it a fulfilling, balanced meal.
