Charred Focaccia and Steak Salad

A sparkling, smoky, and hearty salad that pairs perfectly with charred bread. Crisp focaccia, juicy steak, and colourful vegetables make this a satisfying meal.

 

Ingredients

Steak:

250–300g flank steak or sirloin

1 tbsp olive oil

Salt and black pepper

1 tsp smoked paprika (non-compulsory)

1 garlic clove, minced

Salad:

Mixed vegetables (arugula, infant spinach, romaine)

Cherry tomatoes, halved

Cucumber, thinly sliced

Red onion, thinly sliced

Crumbled feta or shaved Parmesan (elective)

Fresh herbs like parsley or basil

Charred Focaccia:

Focaccia bread (shop-bought or homemade)

Olive oil

Coarse sea salt

Fresh rosemary or thyme

Dressing:

3 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp balsamic vinegar or lemon juice

1 tsp Dijon mustard

1 tsp honey or maple syrup

Salt and pepper

Instructions

1. Prepare the steak:

 Let it relaxation 10–15 minutes at room temperature for even cooking.

 2. Char the focaccia:

 Brush focaccia slices with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt and rosemary. Grill 2–3 minutes per aspect until crisp with visible char marks.

Three. Cook the steak:

In the same pan, sear the steak 3–4 minutes according to side for medium-uncommon. Adjust for thickness or doneness preference. Rest the steak for 5–10 minutes, then slice thinly towards the grain.

Four. Make the dressing:

Whisk collectively olive oil, balsamic vinegar or lemon juice, Dijon mustard, honey, salt, and pepper till emulsified.

5. Assemble the salad:

Combine greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, purple onion, and herbs in a massive bowl. Drizzle with dressing and toss gently.

6. Serve:

Serve charred focaccia on the side, or tear into pieces and scatter over the salad for brought texture.

Tips and Variations

Add greater greens: Roasted bell peppers, grilled zucchini, or radishes could make the salad heartier.

Cheese alternatives: Feta, goat cheese, or shaved Parmesan upload a creamy comparison to the charred bread and steak.

Balsamic glaze: A drizzle over the steak complements the candy-savory balance.

Garlic twist: Rub a cut garlic clove on grilled focaccia for additonal aroma.

Protein swap: Chicken or tofu can replace steak for a lighter model.

 The charred focaccia adds crunch, whilst the steak provides a wealthy, meaty taste. It’s perfect as a main course for lunch or dinner, and the dressing ties everything together beautifully.
