Easy Chana Masala (Chickpea Curry) – Simple Recipe

Chana Masala is a popular North Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a highly spiced, tangy tomato-primarily-based gravy. It’s vegetarian, filling, and complete in protein. This version is simple and makes use of commonplace ingredients, so you can cook it at home without an awful lot of effort.

Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

1½ cups boiled chickpeas (or 1 can, tired and rinsed)

2 medium onions (finely chopped)

2 medium tomatoes (finely chopped or mixed)

2–3 cloves garlic (minced)

1-inch piece of ginger (grated or minced)

2 green chilies (non-obligatory, chopped)

2 tbsp oil (vegetable or mustard oil)

1 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp coriander powder

½ tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp pink chili powder (regulate to taste)

1 tsp garam masala

1 tsp chana masala spice mix (optional, however encouraged)

Salt to flavor

½ cup water (or as wanted)

Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

1 tsp lemon juice (optional, for added tang)

Instructions

1. Prepare the bottom

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and allow them to sizzle for some seconds. This releases their aroma.

2. Cook onions.

Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown. This step is vital as it gives the curry its deep flavor.

3. Add ginger, garlic, and chilies.

Mix in the minced garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Cook for 1–2 mins until the uncooked smell disappears.

Four. Add tomatoes and spices.

Add chopped or mixed tomatoes. Cook until they come to be tender and the oil begins keeping apart from the mixture. Then add turmeric, coriander powder, crimson chili powder, salt, and chana masala spice. Stir well and cook dinner for another 3–4 minutes.

5. Add chickpeas.

Add the boiled chickpeas and blend properly so they're covered with the masala.

6. Simmer

Pour in water depending on how thick you want the gravy. Let it simmer for 10–12 mins on low heat so the chickpeas absorb the flavors.

7. Finish

Add garam masala and blend properly. Turn off the heat and upload lemon juice if you want a tangy taste.

Serving Suggestions

Serve hot with:

Rice

Roti or chapati

Naan or paratha

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and sliced onions for additional freshness.

Tips

For richer flavor, mash some chickpeas at the same time as cooking to thicken the gravy.

If you want quicker cooking, use canned chickpeas.

Adjust spice tiers primarily based on your flavor.

Adding a pinch of sugar can balance acidity from tomatoes.

Chana Masala is a comforting dish that is simple to make, finances-friendly, and perfect for ordinary food.
