Cuban Black Bean Soup
(Sopa de Frijoles Negros)
Cuban Black Bean Soup is a classic comfort dish recognised
for its deep, earthy taste and silky texture. Built around humble black beans
and fragrant vegetables, this soup balances savory spices with a mild tang from
citrus or vinegar. It’s nourishing, budget-pleasant, and perfect as both a
prime meal or starter.
Traditionally, Cuban black bean soup develops its individual
from a sofrito—a gradual-cooked base of onions, peppers, and garlic. Cumin and
oregano offer warm temperature, while bay leaf provides diffused depth. Many
Cuban recipes finish with a dash of bitter orange juice; lime or apple cider
vinegar works beautifully as an alternative.
This model is vegetarian, letting the beans and spices shine
while staying hearty and pleasurable.
