Fold-Over Tortilla Bake (Recipe & Description)
Fold-Over Tortilla Bake is a simple,
comforting, and flexible oven-baked dish made by layering or folding tortillas
with a flavorful filling, then baking till golden and crispy on the outside and
tender and tacky on the inside. It is much like a quesadilla casserole or
tortilla pie; however, it is simpler to gather and exquisite for sharing.
Why it’s famous
This dish is cherished due to the
following fact:
It makes use of basic components.
It cooks in one pan.
It can be customized with greens,
beans, meat, or cheese.
It is price-range friendly and
filling.
It works for breakfast, lunch, or
dinner.
Basic Ingredients
You can adjust based totally on
preference; however, a classic model includes the following:
four–6 massive flour tortillas
1 cup cooked chicken, beef, or beans
(optional for vegetarians)
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar,
mozzarella, or combined)
1 small onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
1 cup salsa or tomato sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon chili powder or paprika
Salt and pepper to taste.
1–2 tablespoons oil or butter
Optional additions:
Corn kernels
Black beans
Spinach or mushrooms
Jalapeños for heat
Sour cream or yogurt for serving
How to Make Fold-Over Tortilla Bake
Step 1: Prepare the filling.
Heat a pan with a touch of oil. Add
onions, peppers, and any vegetables you want. Cook till tender. Add cooked fowl
or beans if using. Season with garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
Stir in salsa or tomato sauce and let it simmer for a few minutes.
Step 2: Assemble the bake.
Take a baking dish and lightly
grease it. Place one tortilla flat inside the dish, letting the rims cling
barely over the perimeters. Spoon some filling over it, then sprinkle cheese.
Place any other tortilla on the pinnacle and repeat layers until elements are
used.
Finally, fold the rims of the lowest
tortilla over the top to “near” the bake.
Step 3: Add toppings
Spread a skinny layer of sauce on
the pinnacle and sprinkle more cheese for a golden crust.
Step 4: Bake
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Bake for about 20–25 mins, or until the pinnacle is golden brown and crispy and
the cheese is absolutely melted.
Serving
Let it cool for five–10 minutes
before cutting. Serve with:
Sour cream or yogurt
Fresh salad
Guacamole or avocado slices
Extra salsa
Variations
Vegetarian version: Use beans, corn,
mushrooms, and spinach instead of meat.
Spicy version: Add chili flakes, hot
sauce, or jalapeños.
Breakfast bake: Add scrambled eggs
and cheese.
Healthy model: Use complete wheat
tortillas and coffee-fat cheese.
Tips
Don’t overfill, or it may become
soggy.
Let it rest earlier than slicing so
it holds its shape.
Use a deep dish for thicker layers.
You can prepare dinner leftovers in
an air fryer for crispiness.
